1. Description
The SensGuard VCNL4010 wireless optical security sensor is designed to protect objects from unauthorized touch, movement, or opening. It is perfectly suited for guarding paintings in museums and galleries, valuables in retail showcases, as well as doors and windows in restricted access areas.
Using innovative optical object control, the sensor continuously monitors the 20–30 mm zone in front of the object. At the slightest change in this distance, an instant alarm is triggered.
2. How it works
The sensor projects a short-range optical field onto the protected surface. If someone touches a painting, moves an exhibit, opens a window or a showcase — the monitored 20–30 mm zone is disturbed, and the event is instantly recorded.
The linked receiver activates a 90 dB acoustic alarm and turns on the light indicator for the corresponding zone so that staff can react immediately. Wireless communication at 868 MHz with AES-128 encryption provides reliable and interference-resistant transmission of alarm signals.
Installation requires no cables or drilling, and the built-in battery provides 24/7 monitoring without additional maintenance.

6. Operating instructions
Turning the sensor on and off
To prevent battery discharge during transport and storage, the sensor is shipped turned off.
- Turning on: Press and release the JOIN button (located on the housing). The red LED will light up for a second, confirming it is ready for operation.
- Turning off: Press and hold the JOIN button for 10 seconds.
7. Mounting options
The sensor is designed for quick installation without damaging surfaces:
- Double-sided tape: Wireless sensors are simply attached to the showcases, doors, or windows that need to be monitored. There is no need to pull wires or perform complex calibration. The sensor can be attached anywhere to monitor the most inaccessible objects.
[!NOTE] The sensor may have difficulty detecting movement if the monitored objects are dark or optically absorbing. In such cases, it is recommended to apply a reflective sticker to the moving part opposite the sensor's sensitive zone.
