1. Description

SensMax L3 series wireless customer satisfaction evaluation buttons (loyalty buttons) are autonomous battery-powered devices designed to conduct customer surveys and measure the level of satisfaction with the quality of services provided directly at the points of contact with clients. The family includes the standard SensMax L3 Pro, SensMax L3 LR, SensMax L3 SLR models, as well as real-time modifications SensMax L3 LR TS and SensMax L3 SLR TS.

The devices give customers the opportunity to express their opinion by selecting one of three buttons with emotional symbols (smileys): Happy, Sad / Neutral, and Disappointed.

The loyalty button is usually mounted on a special plastic stand (holder) with a printed question (for example: "Rate the quality of service" or "Rate the cleanliness of the room"). When you press any of the three buttons, the device registers the vote and saves it in the internal memory, after which the statistics are automatically transmitted over a wireless radio channel to the SensMax data collector (gateway).

Key benefits:

  • Intelligent spam filter (for standard L3 models): A built-in digital spam filter cuts off repeated or too frequent clicks in a row (for example, from children or accidental double clicks), ensuring the representativeness and purity of statistics. There is no spam filter in TS real-time modifications, since their main task is instant transmission of each individual response.
  • 100% wireless operation: Powered by 2 standard AA batteries eliminates the need to route cables. Battery life is up to 2 years.
  • Easy installation: The device can be installed in a couple of minutes on double-sided tape, screws, or placed on a specialized desktop plastic stand.
  • Integration with visitor counting system: Survey data is transmitted to the same database and displayed in unified SensMax reports. This allows you to compare the total number of visitors with the number of reviews and analyze the proportion of satisfied customers from the total traffic.

2. Modifications and network architecture

The SensMax L3 loyalty button family is divided into two groups according to the data transmission mode:

Radio frequency options (868 / 915 / 920 MHz)

By default, all LR and SLR series devices (both sensors and collectors) are supplied configured to a frequency of 868 MHz. For regions with other radio frequency standards (USA, Asian countries, etc.) or upon special request, we produce modifications operating at frequencies of 915 MHz and 920 MHz.

Standard L3 series (Batch transmission)

Accumulates survey data in the internal memory and transmits it to the data collector every 20 minutes.

  • SensMax L3 (L3 Pro): Communication range up to 50 meters. Recommended for small offices and checkout areas.
  • SensMax L3 LR (Long Range): Communication range up to 250 meters. Optimal for supermarkets and trading floors.
  • SensMax L3 SLR (Super Long Range): Communication range up to 800 meters. Designed for large shopping centers and distributed facilities.

L3 TS series (Real-time transmission)

Transmits data on clicks instantly (in real time) or as 5-minute batches.

  • SensMax L3 LR TS: Communication range up to 150 meters.
  • SensMax L3 SLR TS: Communication range up to 800 meters.

3. Data collection features and reporting

  • Combining with visitor traffic: In the SensMax EasyReport software or SensWeb cloud portal, loyalty data is synchronized with attendance charts. This allows you to calculate the Net Promoter Score (NPS) by hours, days, and weeks.
  • Internal memory for reliability:
  • Standard L3 models store a data backup for 25 days (daily totals of clicks on each button are saved).
  • L3 TS models store a detailed log for 1000 records.
  • Data is not lost even during a temporary shutdown of the network gateway or lack of Internet.

4. Application

Checkout areas of retail stores, service areas in banks, post offices, check-in desks at airports, entrance/exit areas in shopping centers, washroom areas to assess cleaning quality, Smart Buildings.

7. Technical specifications

  • Operating principle: Client pressing one of the three physical buttons with emotional feedback.
  • Spam filtering: An intelligent digital filter ignores clicks made too quickly one after another (available only in standard batch versions of L3, absent in TS real-time versions).
  • Serial numbers syntax: Unique identifier starting with the prefix "06" (for example, 060000123).
  • Operating temperature: from 0°C to +55°C (operated indoors).
  • Housing dimensions: 67 × 67 × 25 mm.
  • Weight: ~50 g (without batteries).

Recommendations for choosing batteries

To ensure stable operation of the buttons for 2 years, it is recommended to use new high-quality 1.5V AA alkaline (Alkaline) batteries.

8. Device elements

The devices are equipped with three feedback buttons and an internal Pairing button for setup.

9. Supported data collectors and gateways

For L3 family buttons, a stationary data collector (gateway) is required to receive and forward responses:

For standard buttons (L3, L3 LR, L3 SLR):

  • SensMax SMX PRO gateway: Serves up to 5 L3 (L3 Pro) buttons with a communication range of up to 50 meters.
  • SensMax SMX LR gateway: Serves up to 30 L3 LR buttons with a communication range of up to 150-250 meters.
  • SensMax SMX SLR gateway: Serves up to 30 L3 SLR buttons with a communication range of up to 800 meters.
  • Backward compatibility: Standard buttons are also compatible with TCPIP (Pro/LR/SLR) and 3G (Pro/LR/SLR) collectors serving up to 5 (Pro) or 30 (LR/SLR) buttons per device.

For real-time buttons (L3 LR TS, L3 SLR TS):

  • SensMax SMX LR TS gateway: Serves up to 20 TS loyalty buttons with a communication range of up to 150 meters.
  • SensMax SMX SLR TS gateway: Serves up to 20 TS loyalty buttons with a communication range of up to 800 meters.

10. Physical installation

  • Desktop mounting: The button unit is glued to the transparent plastic stand using double-sided tape, and the paper form with a question for customers is inserted into a special holder on this stand.
  • Wall mounting: The button unit can be mounted on a wall or a flat surface at the level of visitors' hands (usually 1.2 - 1.4 meters from the floor) using high-quality double-sided tape.

11. Commissioning and pairing

Each L3 series loyalty button must be linked to its data collector before starting work:

Manual pairing method (via physical buttons)

  1. Turn on the gateway: Connect the SensMax SMX data collector to the power source.
  2. Set the sensor power: Insert 2 AA batteries into the L3 button.
  3. Start the search mode on the collector:
  4. Using a thin object, briefly press the gateway pairing button.
  5. The Radio Link LED on the collector will start blinking.
  6. Start pairing on the button:
  7. Open the L3 button housing.
  8. Press the internal Pairing button once.
  9. The device will send a pairing packet.
  10. Pairing confirmation:
  11. The collector registers the device in memory and synchronizes the time.
  12. The indicator on the gateway will return to normal operation.
  13. The button will start recording statistics, relying on accurate synchronized clocks.

Alternative pairing method (via collector web interface)

If the buttons are already mounted or you want to avoid disassembling the case to press the internal button, pairing can be done programmatically via the SensMax SMX data collector web interface:

  1. Connect to the collector web interface: Open the built-in collector settings web page in a browser.
  2. Go to the device list: On the Home tab, click the Edit device list button.
  3. Add a device: Click the add button and enter:
  4. Sensor serial number: printed on the device body (starts with the prefix "06").
  5. Security code: printed on the device body next to the serial number.
  6. Complete pairing: Save the settings. The collector will establish a connection with the button via the radio channel and synchronize the system time automatically. This may take from 5 to 20 minutes, depending on the type of sensor.

Checking radio communication quality with the collector

  1. Place the collector at its permanent work location.
  2. Move the button to the proposed mounting point.
  3. Start communication test:
  4. Press the Pairing button on the board inside the open button housing.
  5. The device will send a test radio packet and display the result:
    • Connection is normal: The device will emit two short beeps (via the gateway/PC buzzer or internal LED).
    • No connection: The device will emit one low long beep.

12. Time synchronization

Time synchronization is performed fully automatically during pairing and during each communication session of the sensor with the gateway. The gateway reads the exact time (NTP) and transmits it to the devices.

Important

The loyalty button will not start collecting votes until the current date and time are set on the device through synchronization with the gateway. Initial configuration (synchronization) of time is a prerequisite for starting work.

13. Certification and standards compliance

SensMax buttons are manufactured in accordance with strict international requirements for quality and environmental safety:

  • CE (Conformité Européenne): Compliance with EU safety, electromagnetic compatibility, and radio frequency spectrum standards.
  • RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances): Products are manufactured without the use of harmful and hazardous substances.
  • GDPR Compliant: Full compatibility with European privacy laws. The devices perform purely quantitative anonymized registration of votes (clicks) without collecting any personal, biometric, or video data of customers.

14. Ordering Information

Important: Radio frequency compatibility

When ordering equipment (buttons and gateways), make sure they work on the same radio frequency. By default, LR, SLR, and TS devices are shipped tuned to 868 MHz. If you require modifications for 915 MHz or 920 MHz, be sure to specify this when ordering (for example: SensMax L3 LR - 915 MHz). Equipment with different frequencies will not be able to communicate with each other.
